Why Plastic-Free?
Plastic poses a serious threat to our environment and health. Every year, an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in our oceans, poisoning marine life and entering the food chain. Microplastics have been detected in over 90% of the worldâs drinking water, and research from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation warns that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish (by weight) in our oceans if current trends continue.
For example, coastal communities in India have reported that local fishermen now find microplastics in their catch, raising alarm over food safety and long-term health risks.
These staggering statistics highlight the urgent need to reduce plastic usage and develop sustainable alternatives that protect both our planet and our well-being.
