Care Tips
Light
- Grow earth stars in a bright spot
- These small indoor plants can take some direct sun on their leaves, so they’re perfect for dressing up an otherwise bland window sill
- If your earth stars seem pale, move them to a brighter spot
Water
- Water Earth Stars so the soil just dries before watering again
- keep the soil moist, but not soggy
- However they thrive in moist soil. Likewise, if you forget to water your earth stars now and again, they don’t mind
Soil
- Keep the soil evenly moist
- To create the perfect soil conditions for the earth star, combine regular potting soil with an equal amount of leaf mold or peat moss
Temperature
- It enjoys temperatures ranging from 20-30°C
- When grown indoors, normal room temperature is fine
Repotting
- Transplanting is rarely needed, as this plant doesn’t grow very fast and may only last a few years. The roots are also delicate and don’t always survive repotting
Propagation
- Keep collecting the offsets
- Instead of dropping the offsets in the soil around the foliage and plant growth, the offsets are found between the leaves
- The offsets should be left in place until you plan to propagate the plant
- The offsets can be removed carefully and placed in the same type of soil recommended for the mother plant
- After placing the offsets in their own pots, cover with plastic and add ventilation holes. Set the pots in a bright spot
- Within two to three months, the plants should take root
Pests and Disease
- Not prone to any major disease
- Though constant moisture can cause rot and fungal growth
- Trim off the affected area as soon as its detected
